Coaching versus Teaching
Coaching and Teaching are very different. Below we will explore some of the ways that coaching is different than teaching and how that difference can make a difference in your online business. Teaching is not BAD, it just serves a different purpose than coaching.
Coaching is PERSONAL
Teaching is mostly one-way, where information is passed from the teacher to the student in a manner that maximizes learning. Coaching is different; it focuses on the personal needs and goals of the student – taking place often in two-way communication. The more personal nature of coaching allows for more focused and productive growth for your online business.
Coaching is FOCUSED
Because teaching is often directed at many different people (at many different stages), it is most regularly, generally helpful. This limits the specific usefulness of teaching to whether the topic applies to you. In coaching, the topic should always apply, and apply more specifically. Coaching answers the question: “What is best for YOUR online business?” not, “What is generally helpful for someone with an online business?”
Coaching is ACTIVE
Where teaching is generally passive between the teacher and the student, coaching is very much ACTIVE and in many ways more valuable in the learning process. Coaching is able to focus on the unique and complex goals of your online business. My clients recieve actionable and imediate insights on how to best go forward BUILDING, GROWING, and IMPACTING.
Coaching is CONSISTENT
Teaching takes place online when the student seeks it out. This means if there is a problem that needs solving or a process that needs updating, the student will seek out the solution to this problem. With coaching, the process is more structured. Coaching happens regularly, in order to achieve the desired goals, consistency is key. Coaching creates this sense of accountability and the structure for constant improvement.

You don’t know where to start.
If you’re just getting started, the amount of information and options can be very intimidating. Having a guide (or a coach) can get things started much faster than aimlessly trying different things. Coaching is especially helpful for those who are just starting out in the online business space and need help knowing where to put their time and energy – what processes and tools maximize efficiency and value.
You want to learn new skills.
Maybe you heard about a new marketing technique/strategy and want to implement it in your online business; you just don’t know where to start and you want help with BUILDING a new process. Build Your Stampin’ Site tries to stay up-to-date with the latest and greatest online marketing trends, often experimenting with them on my own site first. We have all been there (and will likely find ourselves there… again) – lost and confused. This comes with the territory, you’re building something that was previously unheard of 20 years ago. The key isn’t focusing on not getting lost, but rather focus on how to best find your way and overcome your confusion. Oftentimes, coaching can be a great way to get familiar with (even master) confusing topics.

Overwhelm is common… With so much flexibility and variety comes some pretty big questions: “What tools do I use for my business?” “What marketing channels should I focus on?” “How should I approach branding for my business?” Having someone to help answer these big questions, or consider different possibilities can be extremely valuable.
