How to Create your Watermark using Snappa

Helping Creators BUILD and GROW their businesses, online.

Have you ever wondered how people get a beautiful watermark to put on all their pictures?

Have you ever googled: “How to make images with see-through (transparent) backgrounds?

In this post, we will explore the basics of watermarks!

Let’s begin.

Why Should You Use a Watermark?

The answer to this breaks into two ideas, the first is brand recognition/awareness and the other is content security from theft or plagiarism.

Brand Recognition

Brand Awareness is a hot topic in online business. It is simply defined as: “the degree of consumer awareness of a brand and its related products.” by Investopedia.

As a creator, you put out fresh and valuable content consistently that could potentially become shared across the web. Why would you not use a small piece of your content “real-estate” to let people know that you made it? This would be the same as creating a billboard without having your name on it.

You just wouldn’t do that.

But so many people post original content every day and fail to credit themselves with their work. At the same time, creators are seeking new ways to get their brand noticed by more people. A great starting point to this is to make sure the original content you publish (whether on your own site or social media) gives your brand the credit for creating it.

Content Security

Every year, the volume of content being created and published on the internet is increasing. Some of that content is non-original and reused for commercial purposes without attributing the original creator.

Watermarks prevent an image, graphic, infographic, etc. from simply being reposted somewhere else and utilized as original content. This has implications for our business.

First, our original content that took time and skill to develop is being stolen for similar use (to grow a brand or to educate an audience). This occurs without you receiving any credit for its creation. Watermarking your images will reduce the confusion of who was the original creator.

Even though it may be a secondary purpose in our online businesses, watermarks make sure that our content remains our content.
